Newbury is one of the oldest towns in Massachusetts, settled in 1635 along the Parker River. The town spreads across three distinct areas: Old Town along the coast near the Lower Green, the village of Byfield in the west, and part of Plum Island on the barrier beach. In between are farms, salt marsh and woodland, with much of the coastline protected as part of the Great Marsh.
