Rowe is a small, forested hill town in northwestern Franklin County, bounded by Vermont to the north and the Deerfield River to the west. A modest center holds the town hall, library and school, and the rest of town is quiet woods, ponds and scattered homes. The Deerfield River’s dams and hydroelectric stations, and the site of the former Yankee Atomic plant, are part of the town’s history.

Getting around
Local roads connect Rowe south to Route 2 in Charlemont, from which the Mohawk Trail leads east to Shelburne Falls and Greenfield and west to North Adams. Vermont roads lie just over the northern line. Residents get around by car.

Pelham Lake Park, the Deerfield River and nearby Monroe State Forest and Mohawk Trail State Forest provide swimming, fishing, hiking and paddling close to home. Berkshire East, a short drive south in Charlemont, adds skiing in winter and mountain biking in summer.
