Merrimac is a small town in the northeast corner of Massachusetts, set along the Merrimack River near the New Hampshire line. Like neighboring Amesbury it once built carriages, and Merrimac Square still has the brick blocks, church spires and town buildings of a nineteenth-century village. The riverside village of Merrimacport sits to the south, and Lake Attitash forms part of the eastern edge of town.
