Framingham is the largest community in the MetroWest region, a city of distinct sections spread across hills, ponds and the Sudbury River valley. Downtown grew around the railroad, Framingham Centre holds the historic common and Framingham State University, and Saxonville and Nobscot each began as their own villages. The Massachusetts Turnpike and Route 9 cross Framingham, with Routes 30, 126 and 135 serving local travel. The MBTA Framingham/Worcester Line stops downtown, and MetroWest Regional Transit Authority buses link neighborhoods and nearby towns. Boston and Worcester are both reachable by car or train.
