Middleton is a quiet town in the middle of Essex County, set among the meadows and woods along the Ipswich River. Its small center sits at the junction of Routes 62 and 114, with the town hall, library and a few local businesses close together. Outside the center, the town is largely residential and wooded, with farms, ponds and conservation land along the river and near Harold Parker State Forest.
